Duxbury, MA (December 25, 2024) – A tragic crash on Route 3 early Monday morning claimed the life of a driver and led to significant traffic disruptions. The accident occurred around 5 a.m. near mile marker 23.4 in an inactive construction zone where lanes shift.
Massachusetts State Police confirmed that the sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Deputy Fire Chief Brian Monahan, Duxbury Engine 2 arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle that had collided with a guardrail. The driver had been ejected from the car and succumbed to their injuries. No other vehicles or passengers were involved in the crash.
The southbound lanes of Route 3 were closed for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances of the accident. Traffic was diverted to Route 139 and Route 14 before rejoining Route 3. The name of the deceased has not been released, as officials are working to notify the family. The investigation remains ongoing.
