
Plymouth, MA (August 5, 2024) – Three individuals, including an infant, were transported to a hospital following an incident at the Market Basket in Plymouth, Massachusetts. According to fire officials, hot cooking oil unexpectedly ejected from a deep fryer, leading to the injuries.
Upon arrival at the Commerce Way store on Thursday evening, August 1, firefighters discovered the kitchen ceiling up to 15 feet away from the fryer coated with oil. Among those requiring medical attention were a 79-year-old patron, a 31-year-old staff member, and an 11-month-old baby. The victims were transported to area hospitals for emergency care. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
Authorities, along with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, are investigating the matter to determine the cause of the accident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
