Yarmouth, MA (September 1, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident reported on Friday claimed the life of a 14-year-old. The crash took place at around 1:00 p.m. on August 30.
According to reports, a collision took place on North Main Street near Great Western Road during the afternoon hours. Further investigations show that a pickup truck was towing a boat on the road when the axle of the vehicle broke. The truck driver pulled to the side to fix the issue. For unknown reasons, an SUV traveling through the area struck the boat. As a result, one person became pinned between the boat and the pickup truck, resulting in fatal injuries. Two additional victims were transported to area hospitals for emergency care. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
We hope the two people hurt in this crash recover quickly.
We offer our sympathies to the family of the victim killed in this accident.

Several common factors contribute to fatal pedestrian accidents. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes, where drivers do not see nearby pedestrians due to inattention, often caused by using smartphones or other distractions. Speeding is another common cause of crashes in Massachusetts, as higher speeds reduce a driver’s reaction time and increase the severity of injuries in the event of a collision. Impaired driving, whether due to alcohol or drugs, also plays a significant role in these tragic accidents. Additionally, poorly lit streets or crosswalks can make it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians, especially at night, leading to fatal outcomes.
Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable in these situations, as they have little protection against the force of a vehicle. When a pedestrian is struck, the injuries are often severe and can result in death. The aftermath of such an accident is incredibly difficult for the family, both emotionally and financially.
